Release The ACS (Association of Asian
Classification Societies) had its 24th Annual Executive Committee meeting in
Busan, Korea on 17~18 November 2016 under the acting chairmanship of Mr. Arun
Sharma, Executive Chairman of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). In his remark the chairman mentioned
that the Existing members' compliance procedures has been newly adopted to
implement a procedural system equivalent to the Membership application
procedures that are applied to the applicant for ACS membership. The chairman
stressed that ACS in this year has strengthened the monitoring work of the
development of the Safety and Environment related international Conventions and
requirements in IMO, and worked for the development of the technical guidelines
relating to the IGF Code, Installation of the BWTS, SECP guidelines, etc. for the benefit of the Asian ship owners
and shipbuilders. The chairman
also reiterated that the PSC detention data of the ACS member societies’
registered vessels have been successfully compiled and approved to be uploaded
in the ACS Website. The pictures of the typical PSC deficiencies will certainly
provide a good guidance for the ship operators and crew on board the ship. The ACS has
organized the annual international seminar in Jakarta Indonesia on 2 August
2016, and will hold another Seminar in Vietnam in August 2017. As customary,
ASA and ASEF representatives have been invited to this year’s ACS Executive
Committee meeting to consider the ways for further mutual co-operation work. ACS members unanimously elected Mr. Arun
