The ACS (Association of Asian Classification Societies) had its 26th Annual Executive Committee meeting (EC26) in Beijing, China on 6^th & 7^th November 2018, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Mo Jianhui, acting Chairman and President of China Classification Society (CCS). All ACS member societies were represented, including Ships Classification Malaysia (SCM) which was newly granted ACS membership. Annual meeting among Asian Shipowners’ Association（ASA）, Active Shipbuilding Experts’ Federation（ASEF）and ACS was held successfully in conjunction with EC26.

In his opening remarks the Chairman emphasized that the strategic directions of ACS are to pursue improvement of ACS Members’ performance and their technical contributions to the international maritime community. He also mentioned the importance to strengthen interactions and cooperation with Asian shipping and shipbuilding industry as well as Administrations in this region to promote regional maritime safety and environmental protection.

This year has witnessed that ACS has strengthened the monitoring work of the Safety and Environment related international Conventions in IMO, and has developed various technical guidelines for effective implementation of the international regulations which have been uploaded on the ACS website for the benefit of the ship owners and shipbuilders.

ACS Annual Report on PSC Inspection has been compiled and uploaded on ACS Website along with the PSC detention data for 2015~2017 of the ACS member societies’ classed vessels and analysis to provide good guidance to ship operators and crew on board the ship.

ACS has organized the international technical seminar in Mumbai, India on 8 August 2018. The seminar was successful with more than 100 participants from Asian industry partners. ASA and ASEF representatives were invited as honoured guests and speakers. ACS will hold its international technical seminar in Ha Long City, Vietnam on 27 August 2019.

ACS members at this 26^th Executive Committee Meeting have unanimously elected VR as Chair Society of ACS for the year 2019.
